Seeking the Human-Made

Yes, I'm going to talk about AI right now. Buckle up.

It’s why I started The Wild Almanac, honestly.

I got so fed up with seeing the same posts and styles of writing. People clearly using LLMs to write their content for them. Absolutely everything! Social media posts, comments, blogs, website content.

Everything started looking the same.

Had the same patterns, cadence, tones, weird use of grammar.

The same flat tone with no life or energy behind it that just made me wince and cringe. And so. bored.

Right now, I’m not going to be here to tell you not to use it or how to use it. Instead, what I want to talk about is the value of human-made.

I think, with the growth of AI, we’re going to have a rift form. Those using AI for the convenience and the virality etc, and those desperately seeking out the connection and soul that comes with anything made by a human.

Human-made will become a sought-out thing we adore. It’ll grow in value.

Because, surely, if I felt desperate to find real human voices telling their truths and sharing their art (whatever style and medium you choose), other creators and consumers would too.

I don’t want flat art or writing or music.

I want raw soul squished into imperfectly stunning art that you know people put their heart and vision in and sooo. much. effort.

It’s the journey behind it all. Knowing people poured so much into it. That it has an element of them into it. The time they spent. The purpose they put into it.

Frankly, I don’t care about the immediate output. Those on the AI chase are just seeking the final product. They don’t care what it took to get there.

The reason the final product is GOOD is because people had a journey to get there. I wanna read that book or look at that art because, f*ck, how much time and effort and growing of their skills did they take to get here and make this. And I am so curious how they thought of this.

That’s what we love about art, isn’t it?

To see the human behind it.

So, yeah, I’m getting fed up with seeing copy-paste samey-samey stencil-cutter voices out there. People not using their soul in their work.

Where are the humans?

I created The Wild Almanac because I wanted there to be a place for humans where they knew everything would be human-made. And I want others to join me in this.

Ideally? Growing this to be a digital magazine (maybe the occasional rare print item for special events) where other people could contribute and we’d all share art and articles and voices and advice on human lives and lifestyles and creativity and loves.

Things that make us human.

A safe space oasis in an online environment that is only going to become more overcrowded with things made by AI, for mostly AI agents.

That doesn’t sound very fun or connected to me. And certainly not very honest or trustworthy. (A colleague of mine and I were speaking about this earlier, that it’s getting harder to tell what’s real or not any more. Harder to trust. Don’t even get me started on Mia Zelu.)

I want to write and make art and music because I love it and it’s fun. Sure, sometimes it won’t be perfect. But it’ll be mine. And made for those I love and want to share it with.

If this sounds like you, what you think, what you want, please say hello.

Join me in this.

Let’s keep this safe space on the internet that we know is human made, for humans.

How do you envision your crazy human life?
